Illinois State Board of Education takes over monitoring of special education at Chicago Public Schools

The Power of Parent Advocacy

Check out this NPR story regarding the power of parent advocacy!!! Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is one of the largest urban school districts in the country. They've had their share of struggles in recent years, and parents have long been working together to inspire change with respect to special education.  Based on this report, it sounds like advocates for children with disabilities in CPS are currently experiencing some relief. I continue to be AMAZED at how effectively parents can inspire reform efforts both locally and nationally. I wish both the families and educators at CPS the very best as they work to improve services for children with disabilities!
